Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers is hosting a free Children’s Safety Expo on Saturday, Sept. 12, offering families a day of education and fun focused on child safety and protection.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Clair College Chatham campus, 1001 Grand Avenue West.
The expo will feature interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities and guidance from first responders, including a fire extinguisher demo, a Jaws of Life vehicle rescue demo and a rollover crash simulator.
A fingerprint clinic will be available, offering parents and caregivers free fingerprinting services to help create child identification records. A digital record will be provided to parents and caregivers to keep, and organizers note that Crime Stoppers does not store any records or personal information.
A free car seat clinic will also be offered, with qualified staff checking installations and answering questions to help ensure children are secure. Spaces are limited to the first 12 who register.
Attendees will also be able to get an up-close look at emergency vehicles, including police cars, ATVs, fire trucks, an ambulance, a boat, an armoured tank and the Mobile Command Trailer.
First responders and safety experts will be on hand to share tips on stranger danger awareness, digital safety and everyday safety skills. The event will also include food vendors, games and activities, and an appearance by live PAW Patrol characters.
Admission to the event is free. All proceeds raised will go directly to Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers, a community-based program that partners local citizens, media and police to help solve crime by offering cash rewards for information leading to arrests or charges. The program relies solely on donations and sponsorships, as it receives no direct government funding.
