Chatham-Kent hosting free webinar on starting a nonprofit

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is inviting residents interested in starting a nonprofit or applying for charitable status to a free webinar later this month.

The session, hosted by the municipality’s Community Attraction and Promotion team along with Benjamin Miller, a staff lawyer and policy advisor with Nonprofit Law Ontario at the Ontario Nonprofit Network, is meant to help people navigate the path from an idea to incorporation and charitable registration.

Topics will include the pros and cons of different organizational structures such as nonprofits, businesses and co-operatives, whether incorporation is the right choice for an organization, the steps involved in incorporating a nonprofit, what it takes to qualify for charitable status, and common challenges in the charity application process.

“Whether you’re launching a new community initiative, serving on a volunteer board, or exploring charitable registration, this session will provide practical information to help you move forward with confidence,” the municipality said in a social media post.

The virtual webinar is set for Sept. 15 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is available through Eventbrite.
