St. Clair Township Public Works is advising operators of farm equipment of detour routes ahead of an upcoming bridge construction project that will close Lambton Line between West River Road and Kimball Road.
Detour routes and signage will be in place throughout the duration of the closure to help guide motorists safely around the construction area.
Given that the work coincides with the fall harvest season, the township is providing additional direction for operators of farm equipment, particularly those hauling grain to and from DC Global Grains in Becher. Farm equipment and grain haulers are encouraged to use Langstaff Line or Smith Line to Kimball Road to access the grain elevators.
The township is asking that the Holt Line Bridge not be used with tractors, wagons or other heavy agricultural equipment, noting the bridge is not designed to accommodate those loads and that avoiding it is essential to protecting the structure and ensuring public safety.
The township said it recognizes that detours can be inconvenient, especially during harvest, but noted there are limited construction windows available to complete the critical bridge work, which must be undertaken at this time to maintain the long-term safety and reliability of the roadway network.
St. Clair Township thanked the agricultural community and all road users for their cooperation and patience, and is asking motorists, farm operators, construction crews and the travelling public to obey all posted signs and follow designated detour routes.
