Crowfest marked its fifth anniversary this year, and as part of the four-day festival’s bid to set at least five new world records, the record for the World’s Largest Caesar Cocktail was broken Thursday night during Flight of the Caesar at Sons of Kent, with a total of 1,261.42 litres.
As the stage was lined with jugs of Clamato juice, vodka from Bootlegger Distillery, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce, Crowfest volunteers led by Brian Machado mixed the ingredients together throughout the evening. In total, 1,095 litres of Clamato juice, 17 litres of Worcestershire sauce, 11 litres of hot sauce, six litres of lemon juice, 137 litres of Bootlegger Distillery vodka and 60 ounces of celery salt were poured.
To ensure the record was documented correctly, the event was filmed from start to finish and included adjudicator Luke Davidson along with two official witnesses documenting the process.
“Tonight has been a fun, and positive experience we have all got to witness,” said Machado.
With any Guinness World Record attempt involving food or drink, the substance must be consumed in order to set or break the record. The event was 19-plus, and all guests in attendance were welcomed to grab a glass and toast the achievement.
The evidence from the night will be submitted to the record-keeping organization for review and verification. If the requirements are confirmed to have been met, and the results exceed the existing record of 1,050 litres set by Birmingham’s Pub in Regina, Sask., Chatham-Kent will be documented as holding the world record for a second time. The same process applies to the festival’s other world record attempts throughout the weekend.
“In Guinness World Records guidelines, we need at least three ingredients: vodka, tomato juice, and Worcestershire sauce,” said Andrew Thiel, Crowfest co-chair. “We are also adding celery salt, lemon juice and a pickle as we all know you can’t have a Canadian Caesar without a pickle.”
The evening also included live music from 40 Hours Over, performances from members of Inferno Force 5, and DJ Nolan closing out the night.
