The Kidney Foundation of Canada is celebrating another successful Chatham-Kent Kidney Walk after participants, volunteers, sponsors and donors came together to raise $5,828 and counting in support of Canadians living with kidney disease.
Held in Chatham-Kent, the annual event united kidney patients, transplant recipients, living donors, family members, health-care professionals and community supporters around a shared goal: improving the lives of those affected by kidney disease.
“Every participant, volunteer, sponsor, and donor played an important role in the success of this year’s walk,” said Shannon Van Watteghem-Levasseur, fund and community development officer with The Kidney Foundation of Canada, Windsor & District Chapter. “The generosity of the Chatham-Kent community helps provide hope and support to kidney patients and their families while advancing research that will improve lives for generations to come.”
Kidney disease affects approximately one in 10 Canadians, with many people unaware they are living with the condition until it has progressed significantly. Funds raised through the Kidney Walk support patient services, public education, advocacy initiatives and critical kidney research.
For many participants, the walk is deeply personal. Whether walking in honour of a loved one, celebrating a successful transplant, or supporting someone currently receiving treatment, the event provides an opportunity for the community to come together and make a meaningful difference.
The Kidney Foundation extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who participated in this year’s event. The support of volunteers, local businesses, sponsors and community members continues to make the Chatham-Kent Kidney Walk a success year after year.
With fundraising still underway, organizers are hopeful the total will continue to grow in the coming weeks.
