Chatham man arrested on warrant for Wallaceburg retail theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 46-year-old Chatham man has been arrested on an outstanding warrant in connection with a theft at a Wallaceburg retail store.

Chatham-Kent police responded to a report of theft at a store on McNaughton Avenue on Sept. 9 at approximately 1:34 p.m. The investigation revealed a man entered the store, selected several items and left without attempting to pay. Through video surveillance, the accused was identified, and officers formed reasonable grounds to charge him with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. A warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Oct. 6, at approximately 1:44 a.m., the accused was located on Wellington Street in Wallaceburg and arrested. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was later released with conditions and a future court date.
