The Ontario Provincial Police West Region is launching Project Safe Haul, a coordinated commercial motor vehicle enforcement initiative running from Oct. 13 to Nov. 1.
Throughout the three-week campaign, OPP detachments across the region will conduct coordinated inspections at various locations. Officers and commercial vehicle inspectors will focus on identifying vehicles that do not meet provincial and federal safety standards, ensuring compliance with legislation, and removing unsafe vehicles from service.
Police say defects involving brakes, tires, steering components, cargo securement and driver compliance can contribute to serious collisions. The project will include a highly visible enforcement presence, with officers inspecting vehicles, educating drivers and carriers, and addressing violations.
“Commercial vehicle safety is a shared responsibility,” said Staff Sgt. Lynn McNichol, West Region traffic and marine. “Through Project Safe Haul, OPP officers will be working proactively with industry partners to identify safety concerns, ensure compliance and remove unsafe vehicles from Ontario roads. Our goal is simple: safer highways for everyone.”
The OPP is encouraging commercial vehicle operators and carriers to ensure vehicles are properly maintained, required inspections are completed, and drivers are following all applicable safety regulations. Updates and enforcement results will be shared throughout the campaign.
