A Chatham man will spend seven days living in a portable storage container as donations strip away his comforts, in a fundraiser for the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent.
Isaac Davey, a member of the Exordia Creative team, will move into a Portable Storage container at the Exordia Creative office at 5 Llewellyn St. on Monday, Oct. 19, and stay until Monday, Oct. 26. The campaign is called 7 Days Contained, For the Kids, and has a fundraising goal of $12,000.
The container will begin furnished with a bed, seating, entertainment, snacks and other everyday comforts. Most removable items have a fundraising target, and supporters can donate toward the item they want removed. Larger items can be funded by multiple donors, and an item will be taken out once it reaches its target.
Essential health and safety provisions will remain, including necessary food and water, heating and ventilation, fire and carbon monoxide safety equipment, and communication and livestream equipment.
“I’m excited to see how far people take this and how much we can raise throughout the week,” Davey said. “I’m starting off pretty comfortably, but I have a feeling that won’t last very long. If losing some of my everyday comforts helps raise more money for kids in our community, I’m all in.”
The challenge will be documented on social media, and a 24-hour livestream will be available on Davey’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/@isank27. Donations can be made at portablestorage.ca/7-days-contained.
“We’re grateful to Exordia and Portable Storage for choosing the Children’s Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent as the beneficiary of this unique fundraising challenge,” said Mike Genge, the foundation’s president and CEO. “It’s inspiring to see our community come together in creative ways to raise awareness and support for the children and youth we serve.”
