Chatham-Kent seeking three members for Encampment Advisory Committee

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is inviting community members to apply for three vacant positions on its Encampment Advisory Committee.

Established by Chatham-Kent Council, the committee provides advice and community perspectives on proposed municipal projects and programs related to encampments, with a primary focus on the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) encampment site in Chatham.

The committee brings together representatives from residents, local businesses, community organizations, individuals with lived or living experience of homelessness, members of council and municipal administration.

Its work is intended to strengthen communication between the municipality and the community while ensuring the concerns of surrounding neighbourhoods are considered alongside the needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.

The current council approval extends the committee’s mandate until May 31, 2027.

The municipality is seeking three individuals interested in contributing their perspectives, experiences and ideas to discussions about encampment-related matters in Chatham-Kent.

The committee includes residents who live or have previously lived near shelters or large encampments, local business owners and operators, community organizations and individuals with lived or living experience of homelessness, as well as municipal representatives.

Serving in an advisory capacity, the committee helps promote open communication and provides input on municipal initiatives related to encampments.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to review the committee’s Terms of Reference and complete an application through the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Committees of Council webpage.
