‘Santa’s boat’ stolen from Wallaceburg Legion

Police are investigating after ‘Santa’s boat’ was stolen from the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18 in Wallaceburg.

Chatham-Kent Police Service official allege sometime between July 14, 2018 at 11 p.m. and July 15 at 8 a.m. unknown suspects stole a 9 foot light grey Walker Bay Odyssey Dingy and 3.5 hp Tuhotsu motor from behind the Legion on Margaret Avenue.

The dingy was last seen with inflatable reindeer affixed to the front, police officials say.

Total value of the theft is approximately $5,000.

The Legion had been hosting their sold-out ‘Christmas in July’ event on Saturday evening.

Legion officials were upset about the theft and posted their concerns on social media.

“There have been a number of (photos) posted regarding the great time that was had by everyone at the recent Christmas in July,” local Legion officials said.

“One of the (photos) was of ‘Santa’ arriving by the boat. Take particular notice of the motor a Tuhatsu – because some low life stole it from the dockside over Saturday night. Please, please, please if you see this motor being sold or around town… phone the police.”
