2023 draft municipal budget being presented next week, community meetings scheduled

The 2023 Municipality of Chatham-Kent budget process will get underway on Wednesday, January 11 when the draft municipal budget will be presented to Council.

This marks the beginning of a political review process that will include opportunities for public comment.

Municipal officials say all budget meetings will be broadcast live on YourTV as well as live streamed on the YourTV YouTube channel, and will also be held in-person in the Council Chambers at the Civic Centre.

Community consultations will be broadcast on the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Facebook Live feed only.

The opening night is on Wednesday, January 11 at 6 p.m., when the 2023 draft budget will be tabled.

At this time, the draft budget will be available to the public on the municipal website at www.chatham-kent.ca/localgovernment/budget/Pages/Our-Municipal-Budgets.aspx

Groups and organizations that wish to request funding must submit a written request by email to ckfps@chatham-kent.ca before 12 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Groups or organizations wishing to provide comment on the municipal budget can submit a written deputation by email to ckfps@chatham-kent.ca before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2023.

At the community consultations, a brief summary of the draft budget will be presented by administration at the beginning of each event.

Two opportunities for public input have been scheduled to take place on Chatham-Kent’s Facebook page as follows:

– Wednesday, January 18 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

– Thursday, January 19 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Those wishing to ask a question are encourage to submit the question prior to the sessions and email the question to ckcommunications@chatham-kent.ca.

Budget committee deliberations are scheduled on Wednesday, January 25; Thursday, January 26; and Tuesday, January 31 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

If more time is required, February 1 and 2 have also been set aside.

Written deputations of up to three minutes in length are welcome each evening.
