Man arrested for intimate partner violence

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: At 4:35 p.m., police responded to an assault investigation on Park Street in Chatham.

Police arrived and learned man and the woman engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when the man threw food at the woman.

During the physical altercation, the man struck the woman in the face and wrapped his arm around her neck, cutting off her airway.

The physical altercation continued and moved from one apartment area to another.

The woman was finally able to break free and called the police.

Police also learned the court had released the man with conditions not to communicate with the woman.

The 33-year-old Chatham man was charged with failing to comply with an undertaking, assault with a weapon, assault and assault causing bodily harm.

He was arrested, transported to police headquarters, and held pending a bail hearing.

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: On March 10, 2023, at 4:30 a.m., police responded to Wedgewood Avenue for a disturbance.

Police learned the woman was sleeping when the man entered the room and began yelling comments that he was going to cause her harm.

The man slapped the woman several times before they exited the room, and the police were called.

Police also learned the man was bound by conditions of a release order not to communicate with the woman or be at her residence.

The 46-year-old Chatham man was charged with uttering threats, assault and two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.

He was transported to police headquarters and held pending a bail hearing.
