A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched for the owners of James Street Eatery in Wallaceburg.
Local residents Jamie Moreland and Trish Miller said on the campaign site that they are good friends to the “amazing family” who owns and operates James Street Eatery in downtown Wallaceburg, Jen and Jason Hrach and their boys, Finn and Sawyer.
“They had a dream, a vision, of one day owning their own restaurant as Jason is a chef and has worked in many places around the world, and Jen has worked in the restaurant business for many years,” Moreland said.
“Together, in November 2021, this husband and wife team, made their dream’s (come) true. They took over a known local restaurant. After lots of hard work, dedication and many obstacles, including diagnoses and no child care for their autistic son Sawyer, they still managed to open.”
Moreland added: “Recently, on Jan 5, Jen was rushed to the hospital very ill. She was sent home. Few days later ended up in the hospital with severe pneumonia, organ failure, and more. She has had tubes inserted in her chest, removed and back in, all in the past two weeks.”
Moreland said the restaurant has been closed since Jan 9, 2024.
“When she gets out of the hospital and back home with her husband and boys, she will not be able to work or do regular home life for a while,” Moreland said.
“This is where our amazing friends, family and community come into play. It takes a village. Let’s be the best village, community as we already are. They put their heart and soul into their restaurant. Let’s save James Street Eatery!”
In less than 24 hours since the campaign was launched, a total of $6,160 has been raised of their $5,000 target.
