Chatham man dies after a crash in Dutton-Dunwich

OPP officials allege: An individual is deceased following a two-vehicle collision in the Municipality of Dutton-Dunwich.

On October 12, 2024, at approximately 2:40 p.m., emergency services including Elgin-St. Thomas Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Dutton-Dunwich Fire Department and the Elgin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), St. Thomas Detachment, responded to a two-vehicle collision on Currie Road north of Fingal Line.

The collision involved two passenger vehicles, one of which was towing a trailer.

One driver, a 72-year-old from Chatham, was transported by EMS and later pronounced deceased at a local hospital.

The other vehicle involved was occupied by a driver and two passengers.

These individuals were assessed by EMS on scene, reported no injuries, and declined transport.

The Elgin OPP continue to investigate the collision with the assistance of the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (TIME) team.

Currie Road between Fingal Line and Talbot Line was closed while the investigation was underway.
