CKPS address ‘critical issue regarding road safety’

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Considering recent events, we need to address a critical issue regarding road safety.

During a recent tragic collision, our Traffic Management team issued seven Provincial Offence Notices and gave three warnings to motorists who chose to drive around road closure signs.

Some were approaching the scene at speeds of 80 km/h or higher, putting not only our first responders at risk but also other motorists and pedestrians.

Driving past barricades not only jeopardizes the safety of everyone involved, but it can also disrupt essential evidence gathering and traumatize those who inadvertently witness the aftermath of a collision.

Please remember: It is an offence to disobey road closure signs.

Moving barricades or driving around them can lead to serious consequences, including a fine of $110 and three demerit points.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

Please respect road closures and help us protect everyone on the road.

Thank you for your cooperation!
