Local country music legend Michelle Wright joined municipal officials on Friday, November 15 to unveil a snowplow that has been named in her honour.
The name of the plow is ‘Snow Wright’ and it will be keeping the roads of Chatham-Kent snow-free in and around Wright’s hometown of Merlin, Municipal officials say.
She was also honoured with a portrait by local artist Lucy Thrift, who has illustrated local legends such as Fergie Jenkins and Bill Atkinson.
The illustration, which is done entirely in pencil, will hang in the Civic Centre atrium in Chatham.
“Michelle has been an incredible ambassador for Chatham-Kent, and her success in country music has brought our community into the spotlight worldwide,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff, in a media release.
“We’re proud to celebrate Michelle’s legacy and her connection to Chatham-Kent. I would also like to thank Lucy Thrift for yet another amazing illustration. Her talent and passion for CK are truly inspiring.”
Wright also took part in Chatham’s annual Christmas Parade, which was held on Friday eveninbg.
