Each February, the Lambton-Kent District School Board observes Black History Month, a time to reflect on the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities.
“At LKDSB, we believe in the importance of recognizing and celebrating Black history year-round,” LKDSB officials say.
“Our staff incorporate Black history, Black perspectives, and Black voices into their teaching practices across all subjects, fostering a deeper understanding of the rich cultural contributions that have shaped our society.”
LKDSB officials added: “This February, we invite you to join us as we highlight events, lessons, and activities taking place across our Board to honour the legacy and ongoing impact of Black Canadians. These efforts provide opportunities for our students and community members to engage with and celebrate the remarkable achievements of Black individuals, past and present.”
Additionally, the LKDSB is encouraging families, staff, and community members to explore and learn more about the diverse and profound history of Black Canadians, including the rich Black History in our own local communities.
“By expanding our knowledge and understanding, we continue to contribute to making Canada a more inclusive, compassionate, and prosperous nation,” school board officials say.
“Let’s come together this Black History Month to celebrate, reflect, and inspire positive change in our schools, in our communities, and beyond.”
