A winter weather travel advisory is in effect in Chatham-Kent for late Wednesday afternoon, February 12, 2025 into early Thursday morning, February 13, 2025.
Environment Canada officials say total snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are possible, with peak snowfall rates of 2 to 3 cm per hour.
There is also a risk of freezing rain.
Forecasters say the snow is expected to begin late Wednesday afternoon and ending early Thursday morning.
The heaviest snow is expected to fall Wednesday night.
“Snow will begin late Wednesday afternoon,” forecasters say.
“Total amounts of up to 10 cm are possible. This snowfall will impact the Wednesday evening commute. Snow may become mixed with freezing rain or ice pellets Wednesday evening or overnight. Precipitation will transition to rain early Thursday morning as temperatures rise above zero.”
Environment Canada officials added: “Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas.”
Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions, forecasters added.
“Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas,” forecasters say.
“Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.”
