The Wallaceburg Minor Baseball Association celebrated a major milestone Sunday with the official unveiling of a new scoreboard at Andy Johnston Field in Kinsmen Park.
The event, which began at 4 p.m., brought together players, families, supporters, and community members to mark the occasion.
Wallaceburg Minor Baseball Association President Doug Buchan delivered a speech recognizing the efforts behind the project and the impact it will have on the local baseball program.
The scoreboard was dedicated in memory of Mike Childs, a longtime supporter of minor baseball in Wallaceburg. The project was led by resident Kim Murray, who organized a community-driven fundraising campaign.
“It has been a long process but with the help of mPower and Bartech, two great Wallaceburg companies, we got this project across the finish line,” Murray said in a social media post. “Structural requirements for the frame caused many delays but with the support of the community and hard work of WMBA President Doug Buchan, the scoreboard is ready to go.”
Major contributors included municipal councillor Aaron Hall, the Kinsmen Club, and the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame. Murray noted the project came in under budget, allowing organizers to restore the field’s batting cage as well.
The 15/18U Riverleague Warriors hosted the Dresden Tigers following the unveiling. Spectators brought lawn chairs and packed the stands to cheer on the home team.
“Go Warriors!” the association said in a statement.
