Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Chatham-Kent police have charged a 50-year-old Chatham man after a hit-and-run collision involving a mobility scooter on Grand Avenue West.
Around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a report of a collision between an SUV and a mobility scooter. Police say the SUV was exiting a gas station parking lot when it struck the scooter, knocking its 70-year-old male operator to the ground. The driver failed to remain at the scene.
The incident was captured on police CCTV cameras, and officers were able to identify and locate the suspect shortly after.
The accused was arrested and charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision, failing to report, careless driving and driving while under suspension.
He was later released with a court date scheduled for Aug. 20.
