Tilbury man charged in Chatham vehicle theft

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 29-year-old Tilbury man is facing multiple charges after Chatham-Kent police responded to a reported vehicle theft in Chatham on Tuesday.

Around 12:03 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot on St. Clair Street after a suspect was seen entering an unsecured vehicle and removing several items. Police located the man a short distance away in possession of the stolen property.

He was charged with two counts of theft under $5,000 and three counts of possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was taken to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters and later released with a court date scheduled for Aug. 26.
