West Region members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 1425 charges across the region during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
The campaign, which ran from August 1, 2025, until August 4, 2025, targeted the negative driving behaviours that contribute to traffic collision deaths, injuries and property damage on our roadways (speeding, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and impaired driving).
Police also enforced Ontario’s Move Over law, which requires all drivers to slow down when approaching emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated and, on highways/roads with more than one lane, move over a lane if safe to do so. The law is designed to give emergency personnel the safe space they need to assist motorists and conduct other work on the roadside.
West Region officers conducted 1801 traffic stops during the campaign.
West Region campaign results are below, with 2024 figures in parentheses for comparison:
– 625 (699) speeding charges
– 148 (108) failure to wear a seatbelt charges
– 10 (16) distracted driving charges
– 47 (45) impaired driving charges
– 19 (12) fail to move over for emergency vehicles charges.
