The Ontario government has appointed Geoff Owen as chair of the Ontario Energy Board.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines announced Friday that Owen will lead the regulator as the province works to deliver what it calls a self-reliant, affordable and secure energy system.
“Ontario is forging ahead with an ambitious long-term energy plan that keeps costs down as we build the future,” said Stephen Lecce, minister of energy and mines. “Geoff has the experience and leadership at the OEB to help protect Ontario’s future by ensuring families and businesses can count on reliable, affordable, and clean energy.”
Owen has served on the board since 2021, including as vice-chair since 2024 and acting chair since April. The province says his leadership will support the rollout of Energy for Generations, Ontario’s first integrated energy plan, which aims to meet growing demand and power what the government calls the strongest economy in the G7.
The OEB will continue to play a central role in carrying out the government’s energy plan through regulation and guidance to the sector.
Owen is currently principal of Foresight Strategic Advisors. He previously held senior leadership roles at the Royal Bank of Canada in regulatory affairs, business strategy and public affairs, as well as senior positions in government.
