Driver dead after school bus crash on Highway 401 in London

OPP officials allege: A 52-year-old man from the Waterloo Region has died following a school bus crash Friday morning on Highway 401 in London.

Police say the single-vehicle collision happened around 9:40 a.m. in the westbound lanes of the highway, west of Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The bus, which was carrying 42 secondary school students, left the roadway and crashed. Four passengers were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Middlesex OPP.

With help from the London Police Service, an Emergency Operations Centre was set up at East Lions Community Centre to reunite students with their families.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Middlesex OPP and the OPP West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team.
