Woman charged after alleged assault, property damage in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 35-year-old Chatham woman is facing charges after an alleged assault and property damage incident on Wellington Street West.

Chatham-Kent police responded around 7:54 p.m. on November 12 after receiving reports of an individual causing damage outside a residence.

Police said a 63-year-old woman witnessed the accused breaking several items on the property. When the complainant approached her, the woman allegedly pushed the complainant to the ground before fleeing on foot.

Officers later located and arrested the accused. She has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and assault.

The woman was taken to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where she remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
