Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A disturbance on Fourth Street in Chatham led to a man being arrested and charged after municipal snow-clearing operations were disrupted on the afternoon of Jan. 23.
Chatham-Kent police responded around 1:34 p.m. after reports of an individual screaming, swearing and preventing municipal workers from clearing snow from the roadway. Police say the operator of a vehicle attempted to drive away, but the individual continued to follow and struck the cab window.
The 41-year-old Chatham resident was arrested for preventing a breach of the peace. Officers later learned the individual was also wanted on an outstanding warrant. While being processed at police headquarters, damage was caused to property inside the booking area.
The accused was charged with mischief under $5,000 and was remanded into custody at the South West Detention Centre, where he remains until his next court appearance on Jan. 29 by video.
