Two arrested after nearly $500,000 in drugs seized during Chatham raid

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: Two Chatham residents are facing multiple drug and firearm charges after police seized nearly $500,000 worth of suspected drugs during the execution of a search warrant Thursday evening.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Intelligence Unit, assisted by the Emergency Response Team, executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a residence on Webb Street in Chatham on March 12, 2026.

Police say the Emergency Response Team executed the warrant at approximately 6:08 p.m. Officers entered the residence, which was occupied by a 58-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man from Chatham, and both individuals were arrested for possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking.

Following the arrests, investigators from the Intelligence Unit conducted a systematic search of the residence.

Police say officers seized 2.487 kilograms of fentanyl, seven grams of cocaine, a loaded 9mm Sig Sauer handgun, digital scales, cellular telephones and a large quantity of Canadian currency. The total estimated street value of the seized drugs is believed to exceed $498,000.

Both individuals have been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition and careless storage of a firearm.

They remain in custody pending a bail hearing.

“The Chatham-Kent Police Service continues to work proactively to disrupt the distribution of illicit drugs and enhance the safety of the community,” police said in a statement.
