Chatham man charged after alleged motel damage and threats

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 47-year-old Chatham man is facing charges after police investigated reports of property damage and threats at a motel on Grand Avenue West.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded to the motel at approximately 12:39 p.m. on May 26.

Through the investigation, police learned the accused allegedly caused significant damage to a motel room and threatened to set the room on fire.

Police later located the accused in the motel parking lot and arrested him without incident.

The accused has been charged with mischief under $5,000 and uttering threats.

Police said the accused was transported to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters and later released with a future court date of Aug. 24, 2026.
