The Creator’s Paintbrush

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

Do you ever stop and take in those special acts of God’s creation and then thank Him for it?

I am thinking of beautiful waterfalls, spectacular sunsets, a light fog over a serene lake, or a dazzling light display in a summer thunderstorm, just to name a few.

Back in the fall of 1991 my wife and I drove to Vermont for our first wedding anniversary.

We went through the Adirondacks of New York state, which were incredible, crossed on the ferry over Lake Champlain, and on into scenic Vermont.

Fall in Vermont is nothing short of amazing, with its brilliantly coloured tapestry of reds, oranges, and golds turning the green Mountains of Vermont into the Master Creator’s canvas.

We stopped and pulled over at one point where there was a magnificent gorge full of fall colour.

There was a sign above the narrow bridge that said, “The Best View in Southern Vermont.”

We took several pictures with our disposable camera purchased at a local drug store.

Later, when we developed the film, we realized that the resulting photos didn’t do justice to what our eyes had seen.

Psalm 19:1 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

In our case, it wasn’t the stars in the sky but the trees on the ground.

Either way, when we consider the incredible beauty of God’s creation it should evoke a response of gratitude from us.

It doesn’t have to be something big and grandiose, either.

Noticing a spider spinning its web, or a hummingbird hovering over a flower, or spotting a crocus on a nature walk can all be reasons for praising our wonderful Creator, and it gives us a better appreciation for the wonderful world in which we live.
