The Chatham-Kent Barnstormers will recognize the volunteers who support the team’s charitable and game-day operations during a special appreciation night on June 9 at Fergie Jenkins Field in Chatham.
Team owners and players will honour the volunteers who help operate concession stands, assist with cleanup and support fundraising initiatives at home games. Since the team was established three years ago, those efforts have generated more than $40,000 for community organizations, including Special Olympics Chatham-Kent, Camp Vincent Youth Summer Camp, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Refuge.
Organized through the Knights of Columbus fundraising and volunteer program, the initiative has provided support to approximately 40 local charities. Organizers say they expect fundraising totals to grow again this season.
More than 200 volunteers and family members are expected to attend the game, travelling from across Chatham-Kent as well as Windsor, Sarnia and London. Volunteers will throw out the ceremonial first pitch and help lead the crowd in singing the national anthem.
All net proceeds from the game’s 50/50 draw will support the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids program, which distributed more than 20,000 new coats to children across Ontario last year.
The Barnstormers will host the Welland Jackfish at Fergie Jenkins Field, located at Rotary Park, on Tuesday, June 9. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
Tickets are available for $14 through the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers website. The game will also serve as a celebration of the volunteers whose efforts continue to support charitable causes throughout the region.
