OPP officials allege: One person has died following a single-vehicle collision that sent a car into the St. Clair River on Wednesday afternoon.

Walpole Island Police Service said officers responded to a report just before 3:30 p.m. of a vehicle that had left River Road and entered the river.
The service was assisted at the scene by the Lambton County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, the Walpole Island Fire Department, Emergency Medical Services, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office.
The lone occupant of the vehicle, an 84-year-old from Walpole Island First Nation, was recovered from the river and pronounced dead at the scene.
Members of the OPP’s West Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team are assisting with the investigation, which police say remains ongoing.
River Road was closed between Sands Lane and Chiefs Road for several hours while investigators worked the scene. The road has since reopened to traffic.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have dash camera footage from the area at the time, to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
