In the miracle of the feeding of the 5,000, which is found in all 4 gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we read that the people all ate and were satisfied, and they still had 12 baskets of leftovers!
That was 5,000 men, by the way, so with women and children the number was closer to 15,000 or more.
Jesus and His disciples were in a remote place, far from any restaurants or other food sources, so where would they get enough food to feed such an enormous crowd?
Most of us know that Jesus did something miraculous, but He didn’t pull this out of thin air.
John 6:9 says this: “Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?”
I meet a lot of people in this world who genuinely want to help others, but then they look at their limited pool of resources and think, “What’s this going to accomplish?”
Three Christmases ago, early in December, I had a young boy come up to me after the service and give me a card with 40 cents taped to the inside and a short, legible but misspelled message: “Please give this to help poor people.”
The following Sunday I read his card to the congregation, told his story, and put a coffee can on the communion table.
By Christmas we had over $2,800 come into that can!
You have something God can use to help others.
Don’t look at the menial size of your offering.
Instead, look at the infinite greatness of our God who can easily multiply what you give Him.
