More than 150 native trees and shrubs will be planted Saturday at Crothers Park in support of TD Tree Days. The event is being hosted in collaboration with the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority Foundation, and several spots are still open for volunteers of all ages to join.
Planting native and climate-appropriate tree species in Crothers Park will contribute to increasing local canopy cover, helping to mitigate urban heat island effects, improve air quality and support stormwater management through increased filtration and reduced runoff adjacent to the Sydenham River corridor. It will also improve habitat connectivity for birds, pollinators and other wildlife, as well as increase shade for park users and improve overall park comfort and usability.
Some 150 trees were also planted in Blenheim last weekend at the Flook Trail.
TD Tree Days is working together with 75 different organizations to help plant 30,000 trees and shrubs across North America this year. Helping to make this possible are local community groups and volunteers of all ages in urban and rural areas across the province, like Wallaceburg.
The event runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at Crothers Park, Mt. Pleasant Crescent, Wallaceburg.
