Frederika ‘Rita’ Menzie

Frederika (Rita) Menzie, a resident of Port Lambton has finally been reunited with her husband, the late Charles Menzie (1996) on October 21, 2026 at the age of 79.

Rita was born in Nietap, the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada where she would later meet her husband, Charles on a train. They maintained a long-distance relationship until they later married, started their family and settled down in the little village of Port Lambton.

Rita was a PSW for 15 years at Riverview Gardens. In her prime, she was also a very active member in the community of Wallaceburg, helping with several fundraisers such a “jail and bail”.

Rita will be eternally missed by her children, the late William (Carol) Menzie and Annalise (Robert) Menzie, her grandchildren Sean, Melissa and their families, Alicia (Leslie) and Charles (Alexandra). Rita will especially be missed by her great niece Kate-Lynn (Sam) Sawchuk and their children from Alberta. Rita was a proud “Big Oma” to her great grand children, Danika, Avyana and Eila.

The family would like to thank the staff at BWH, CKHA and the EMS services for always taking good care of her. They would also like to thank Heather, Erica and Madison from Bayshore for their excellent care which gave us an additional 5 years to love her.

Rita’s end of life motto seemed to be, “just doin’ the best I can” and we will forever miss hearing her stories over and over again.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Her Celebration of Life on her 80th birthday, Saturday, November 7, 2026 at the Port Lambton Community Hall (507 Stoddard St, Port Lambton) from 12 until 4pm. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231). If you wish to make a donation in her memory, please consider the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Cherished stories and tributes may be left for the family at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca.

Until we meet again; Mom, Oma, Big Oma. We love you.
