Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 37-year-old Blenheim man has been charged after police say he carried a sledgehammer and a knife during a dispute at a Talbot Street West business.
Chatham-Kent police responded at about 8:36 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Witnesses told police a man was in a verbal dispute with a woman while carrying a sledgehammer, and that he yelled at people in the area before leaving on foot before police arrived.
Police say they formed grounds to believe the man had possessed a sledgehammer and a knife for a purpose dangerous to the public peace. Officers found him at a residence in Blenheim and arrested him without incident. Police say he was bound by a probation order prohibiting him from possessing weapons.
He is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and failing to comply with a probation order. He was held pending a bail hearing.
