Fred Fox visits Dresden

Terry Fox’s brother was in Dresden on Monday to help promote the upcoming run on Sunday.

Fred Fox topped at various locations in Dresden, including Dresden Area Central School and Lambton Kent Composite School.

“Way to go Dresden Area Central School for showing Fred Fox a warm welcome,” wrote Sandra Mathewson on Facebook.

Fred also visited the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 113 in Dresden in the afternoon.

At each stop, Fred discussed the life of his brother Terry, which has inspired so many people over the years… and has also helped raise millions of dollars for cancer research through the Terry Fox Foundation.

Cindy Brewer, the organizer of the Dresden Terry Fox Run, told the Sydenham Current last week that Fred Fox is a down to earth guy.

“You feel like he is somebody from Dresden,” she said. “He is so casual, but just to have that close of a connection, it is quite remarkable to listen to him.”

Celebrating their 20th year this year, Brewer said there are a lot of ways to register for the run, which takes place on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 113 in Dresden.

“There are pledge forms at a lot of places in downtown Dresden. McKellar’s has all of the ‘Terry swag’ I guess you could say. So they can pick up a pledge form there. They can also registered and collect pledges online at terryfox.org. Even if you haven’t done either one of those to things by Sunday, just come. Just show up,” she said.

Brewer added: “You can do an on site donation. There is no minimum pledge amount. We just want you to be there and enjoy that day with us. Come anytime between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday. It is an open start so just whenever it is a convenient time for you, you just come and register and start when you are ready.”

An anniversary ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Overall across the country it will mark 35 years for the Terry Fox Run.
