The 15th annual Sydenham Challenge Dragon Boat Festival is once again set to take place in downtown Wallaceburg along the Sydenham River.
The annual event will run from approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 4.
The event is stationed at the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 18 and has grown to host over 30 teams from various regions in North America.
Brian Armitage, the festival organizer, said a change in schedule has forced a team out of the competition, leaving them with an on odd number of teams.
“As you are aware we really need to hit that even number,” Armitage said.
“We will need to create a new team. If you have spare paddlers or extra people who would like be a part of this team would you please help out and see if they might be interested. The cost of the boat is covered so no worries there. We had to do this three years ago and they won.”
Armitage is asking people who are interested to contact him at 519-628-5456 or brian@uwock.ca.
He said extra paddlers will be needed for their sister team from Dubuque Iowa (Breast of Friends) and an open invitation is out for several paddlers to join their awesome team.
The event will feature some activities for the kids as well, as the Wallaceburg Fireworks groups is leading some activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the Wallaceburg Library:
– Free Inflatables
– Free Face Painting
– Wallaceburg Airhawks Lemonade Stand
– Wallaceburg Martial Arts Pizza Stand
– The Cotton Candy Hut
