C-K amenities missing from MoneySense criteria

CK Paddleboarding - CopyMoneySense.ca released its annual rankings this week for the best places to live in Canada.

Chatham-Kent came in in 182nd place.

Here is our original story as well.

Wallaceburg Coun. Jeff Wesley said he feels Wallaceburg would have fared well on its own.

“Chatham-Kent is a medium sized municipality and even though I live in Chatham-Kent, my home is Wallaceburg and that should have been listed under small communities where I think it would have done quite well,” he said.

Wesley said some if the amenities that C-K has did not factor in to the rankings either.

“Amenities that C-K has, or any community do not count and should, it is those reasons why I chose to live here,” he said. “House prices, water, boating, outdoors, close to large cities, small town appeal, cost of living and on and on. We are here because of all of these and I have no desire to live in any other of the top 200.”

Wesley added: “At least we made the list which is excellent – the survey is still a subjective one by someone who does not live here. Wallaceburg is my home and I live in CK – it’s perfect for my family and I love it.”

Mark Brown, managing editor of reports and rankings for MoneySense, told The News in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (who finished in 198th place), that it is difficult to measure some of the intangible elements of a particular community.

“Believe me, if there was a way to measure the view of the mountains from Vancouver or living next to the Atlantic Ocean, we’d include it but there’s no way to put it into a number.”
