Drunk driver sentenced for his friends death

A Walpole Island man is heading to jail after receiving his sentence today for his best friends death.

Paul Nahdee, 35, was sentenced to 18 months in jail at a Chatham court room. His sentence will be followed by three years probation.

Nahdee was drunk and behind the wheel of a Ford Mustang on Sept. 15 2012, when he failed to stop and crashed through a guard rail at Dufferin Avenue and Highway 40.

Nahdee and his friend Stephen Smith, 21 of Walpole Island, were taken to hospital by ambulance, while another passenger in the car suffered no injuries.

Smith died from his injuries at the Sydenham Campus in Wallaceburg about 45-minutes after the crash.

Nahdee pleased guilty to the charges of impaired operation cause death and exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content cause death.

Nahdee was also received a two-year driving prohibition, submitted blood to the DNA data bank and is prohibited from owning or using weapons for 10 years.
