Eyeing a 2017 opening, A&W is still looking for a franchisee for their new Wallaceburg location.

Officials with the restaurant chain told the Sydenham Current back in October they are looking to open next year at a location between Dollarama and the Great Canadian Oil Change on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg.

Fast-forward to December, and A&W officials are still offering a “turnkey business opportunity” with Canada’s original and fastest growing quick service burger chain.

“A&W developed a restaurant model designed to perform extremely well in smaller communities,” says Yanick Morin, National Director, Franchise Development, A&W Food Services of Canada Inc. “Wallaceburg is a thriving community that provides a tremendous business opportunity for A&W, and the opportunity for a franchisee to own and run a successful business in an area they care about.”

A&W officials say the brand new Drive-Thru, Free Standing restaurant is strategically located in the core of Wallaceburg’s major shopping area on McNaughton Avenue (Hwy. 40), one of the town’s busiest streets and main thoroughfare from both Windsor and London, ON.

The restaurant will feature 1,871 sq. ft. of dedicated space, seating for up to 60 guests, a full-service drive thru, ample customer parking, and will be built from the ground up with the most efficient floor plan and new modern A&W design that appeals to guests of all ages,” A&W officials say.

“A popular destination for boating, golfing, fishing and hunting, Wallaceburg is a vibrant town located in the northern area of the Chatham-Kent municipality, a mere 40 minutes from Sarnia, ON and less than 1.5 hours to each Windsor and London,” A&W officials stated.

A&W’s franchise model has been recognized as a Canadian Franchise Association (CFA) 2016 Franchisees’ Choice and the company is also a Platinum Member of Canada’s Best Managed Companies.

“Our franchisees are more than just an extension of our business, they’re the heart and soul of A&W,” says Susan Senecal, President and Chief Operating Officer, A&W.

“A&W franchisees pioneered many of our various restaurant models, menu innovations and operating procedures, and have helped us grow to become Canada’s second largest hamburger chain. Because of their dedication and passion, we now have more than 860 restaurants across the country, with plans to add 300 more locations in the next five to seven years.”

What it will take

A&W officials say their franchisees are business-savvy with a strong record of success in a professional background.

“Relationship building and people-management skills are essential as are passion and dedication,” A&W officials say. “The investment for the Wallaceburg Drive-Thru, Free Standing A&W restaurant is approximately $1 million, with 35 per cent in unencumbered cash.

A&W offers a comprehensive training program, from food service to restaurant management, to ensure its franchisees are equipped with the tools and information required to successfully run their business with productive employees, low turnover and high profit margin, A&W officials stated.

I dont think A&W did their due diligence, as Wallaceburg has lost their only golf course.
