Change is the law of life

From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin

At the beginning of this year I received a nice letter from my financial planner alerting me to various changes that she saw looming on the financial horizon.

She included an excellent quote from the late U.S. president, John F. Kennedy: “Change is the law of life, and those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.”

Planning and preparing for change is the best way to deal with it when it comes.

Both the Canadian and U.S. governments experienced a change in leadership in the past year.

These changes introduced a fairly significant departure from what those countries had been used to in the previous number of years.

Sometimes, when you get used to things a certain way, it is very hard to adapt to change. In fact, you may even want to fight against it.

I will be the first to admit that I have not been in favour of some of the changes that have occurred in our country since the last election.

However, I know, as a Christian, that I will be able to adapt because my life is anchored in the One who never changes.

Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Knowing that my Lord never changes, even though I live in a world that does, gives me hope and perseverance to face the challenges of change head on.

You may have changes at your place of employment.

Students are just 3 weeks into a new semester at high school.

And the weather, well it’s constantly changing!

Nevertheless, a reliable anchor of faith will keep you on level ground.
