Art shows in Chatham highlight stories of resilience and connection

Two new art shows opening this month at the CO. will spotlight the creative work of local and international artists exploring themes of connection, healing and personal transformation.

The back-to-back exhibitions feature Dani Devereux, a UK-born artist and animator now based in Chatham, and Genevieve Champagne, a longtime Chatham-Kent artist whose vibrant work reflects a journey of hope and resilience.

Both shows are free and open to the public at the CO. Chatham, located at 208 Queen St.

Dani Devereux: Pocket Ghosts
Saturday, July 12, 2025, 6 to 7 p.m.
Devereux, who works on feature animated films — including Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse — blends polaroid emulsion and sculpture in a body of work that explores what it means to feel fractured across time and space. Her exhibition, Pocket Ghosts, aims to resonate with those navigating distance while seeking authentic human connection.

Genevieve Champagne: Champagne Sun & Flora — Find the Light!
Saturday, July 19, 2025, 6 to 7 p.m.
Champagne’s showcase features watercolours and handmade sun catchers inspired by nature, reflection and emotional healing. Her work draws from personal experience and encourages viewers to seek light during life’s darker seasons.

The shows are part of the CO.’s Artist Residency Program, which supports new and mid-career artists with lived experience of mental health challenges. Since its launch in 2020, the program has supported nine artists through studio space and solo exhibitions.

The CO. is a Chatham-based studio focused on mental health, creativity and community connection through art therapy, exploration and public events.
