Tartan swimmers qualify for OFSAA

The Wallaceburg Tartans Swim Team competed at the SWOSSAA Swimming Championships yesterday at the WIAC in Windsor.

The Tartans have several swimmers that met the OFSAA time standards in order to move on to OFSAA Championships in Windsor on March 7 and 8.

The Sr. Girls Medley Relay (Chelsey Johnson (back), Alyssa Wadsworth (breast), Megan Maxim (fly) and Tallie Laprise (free) took 1 sec off their best time and met the standard. The team placed second at SWOSSAA, missing first by only 2/10th of a second.

The Sr. Girls Free Relay (Amanda Metayer, Megan Maxim, Chelsey Johnson, Tallie Laprise) also took time off to qualify for OFSSAA. The team placed 3rd at SWOSSAA.

Chelsey Johnson clocked two personal bests and qualified in the Sr. girls 50m Free and Sr. girls 100 Back. She also won gold in the 100m back and silver in the 50m free.

Tallie Laprise clocked two personal bests and qualified in the Sr. Girls 100 Individual Medley and the Sr. girls 100 Free. She earned a SWOSSAA silver in the 100m IM and bronze in the 100 free.

Kris Chauvin won the SWOSSAA title in the Sr. boys 100m Free in order to move on to OFSAA. He missed a second SWOSSAA title by just 2/10th second in the Sr. boys 50m free. Chauvin also got third in the 100 back.

Emily Tapp pulled out her best to qualify in the Jr. girls 50 back. Emily narrowly missed a second event by 7/100th seconds to earn a silver in the Jr. girls 100 free. She came 5th in her 50 back.

Personal Best Performances:

The Sr. Boys Medley relay (Matthew Forgie(back), Johnathan McCaughrin (Breast), Mitchell Lauwereys (fly), Andrew Babbitt (free)) put four personal best times together to earn a 4th place finish.

Johnathan McCaughrin showed that the Tartans can go the distance placing third in the Sr. boys 200m freestyle.

Layla Rogers-Shahidi got two personal best times to place 4th in the Para 50m back and 6th in the Para 100m Free.

The Jr. Girls Medley Relay (Emily Tapp (back), Sara Park (breast), Paige Grealis (fly) and Lindsay Hussey (free)) placed 6th with a personal best time by more than 3 sec.

Alyssaa Wadsworth took more than 1 second off her personal best time to place 8th.

Sara Park also took 1 sec off her 50m breast, not only achieving her goal of making SWOSSAA but swimming her best race under pressure.
