‘Half load’ restrictions removed early

On an annual basis, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent implements a period of reduced load limits during the spring thaw on a majority of the road network.

Municipal officials say this is done in order to protect the road base from damage caused by wheel loads of heavy vehicles and to increase the lifecycle of municipal roadways.

“This year, favourable weather conditions and roadway assessment have allowed the Public Works Department the opportunity to lift restrictions earlier than normal,” Chatham-Kent officials stated.

The limit was set to be in place until Friday, April 21.

Signage advising reduced load restrictions on municipal roadways was set to be removed by Public Works crews on Friday as well.
