Elisabeth Fleischmann of Wallaceburg

Elisabeth Fleischmann, a long-time resident of Wallaceburg, died suddenly at Fairfield Park on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the age of 83.

Elisabeth is the daughter of the late Lorenz & Maria (Schneider) Uttri, and sister of the late Niklaus Uttri. She was the beloved wife of the late John Fleischmann Sr. (2015). Elizabeth is survived by her children: Helene Linka (George), Elsa Wheeler (Tony), John Fleischmann Jr. (Julie), Caroline MacDonald (Brian) and Linda Adams (Larry). She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Britney (Adam Warner), Madolyn, Chelsea, Ryan, Christopher, Adam, Matthew, Daniel and Lindsay who were the greatest joys of her life.

After fleeing the ravages of war torn Yugoslavia, Elisabeth (known to her friends and family as Lissi or Liesel) met the love of her life, John, in post war Linz, Austria. They were married June 27, 1953 and began their journey and life together immigrating to Canada. As John built their automobile business, Elisabeth worked tirelessly in the background creating a warm and loving home, and raising five fabulous children who, with their friends, couldn’t wait to enjoy Elisabeth’s delicious made from scratch meals and scrumptious baking. Her home was a constant revolving door of welcome to one and all. Her generous spirit and kind and humble personality were cherished by all who had the joy of sharing her friendship. Elisabeth’s gardens were her great treasure which she tended to devotedly. In later years, she and John often returned to Europe to visit family and to holiday in her beloved Alps.

Elisabeth was a devoted member of Holy Family Church for 56 years and sang in the choir for many years. Special thanks to all of her caregivers – in her home, at Eden Villa and Fairfield Park, and the staff at Riverview Automobile who were always ready to lend her a hand over the years.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the HAYCOCK-CAVANAGH FUNERAL HOME, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg from 7-9 PM on Tuesday. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Family Church on Wednesday, May 24 at 11 AM. Interment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.

If desired, remembrances to the Alzheimer Society may be left at the funeral home. 519.627.3231. Online tributes may be left at www.CavanaghFuneralHome.ca
