Julius Laevens

Born in Dover Township, Julius Laevens, a resident of Chatham, peacefully passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the Chatham-Kent Hospice, three days before his 88th birthday.

Julius was the son of the late Gustaaf & Marguerite Laevens.

Husband of the late Edna (nee Normandin) (1997) & Barbara (nee Marshalek) (2013).

Beloved father of Dave Laevens & wife Colleen (nee Sherwood), Charlene Blair & husband Larry & Ken Laevens & girlfriend Pam Pillon.

Grandpa of Jenny Laevens, Scott Laevens & wife Melissa, Becky Laevens, Bonnie Grin & husband Mike, Amy Hambly & husband Andrew, Beth Blair & fiancée Dave Taylor, Nick Pillon & Connor Pillon.

Great-grandpa of 11 great-grandchildren.

Survived by sister, Germaine Pynenbrouck (late Emiel, 1983), sister-in-law Claudia Laevens (late James, 2016) & brother-in-law of Maurice Serruys (the late Alice, 1994).

Missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family & his furry companion, Mia.

Julius was a farmer in Dover Township for all of his life. He worked at King Grain Research for many years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. 642 & loved spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.

Family to receive friends on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. Vigil Prayers will be offered at 3:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 5425 Tecumseh Line, Tilbury. Interment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

In memory of Julius, memorial contributions may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation & Canadian Diabetes Association.
