Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith has become an unrestricted free agent, after the Toronto Maple Leafs failed to give the winger a qualifying contract offer.

The Leafs had seven players, whose contracts expire this summer, who met the parameters of being ‘restricted’ free-agents.

However, by not giving Griffith a qualifying offer, he now becomes an unrestricted free agent.

The 24-year-old will be free to sign with any club starting on Saturday, July 1 when the NHL’s free agency period begins.

Griffith recorded five assists in 24 NHL games last season with the Florida Panthers and the Maple Leafs.

He also had 44 points in 38 games with the Toronto Marlies, the Leafs’ AHL affiliate.

During parts of three seasons in his NHL career, Griffith has skated in 58 games, recording 16 points, 6 goals and 10 assists.

The 5-foot-9, 191-pound former London Knight was originally selected by the Boston Bruins in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
