The Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) is hosting ‘Heroes in the Home 2017’ this fall.
The event celebrates the dedication and selflessness of caregivers and highlights the extraordinary work of these individuals.
During the months of September and October, the LHIN is encouraging patients, families, health care professionals, and all other residents across the region, to nominate a hero in their life.
This recognition program is aimed at any individual, either paid or unpaid, who provides exceptional care in the home.
“Heroes in the Home is one way the Erie St. Clair LHIN can show our appreciation for these exceptional individuals who are taking care of patients between nursing or personal support visits,” stated Ralph Ganter, CEO of the Erie St. Clair LHIN.
“These caregivers play a vital role in the health care system and the LHIN is honoured to provide them with this recognition.”
Last year, nearly 130 heroes across Chatham-Kent, Sarnia/Lambton, and Windsor/Essex were honoured.
The LHIN is hoping to reach the 150 mark this year.
“The LHIN understands that the physical and emotional demands of taking care of a loved one are significant,” stated Cathy Kelly, vice-president of home & community care for the Erie St. Clair LHIN.
“It’s important to show our appreciation to those who are providing care. Even though they are not doing this work for the acknowledgement, it is important they know we are thankful for everything they do.”
Nominations are now open and can be submitted online at www.thepowerofcaregiving.ca.
The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 20, 2017.

All nominees will be honoured at one of three special ceremonies in November in either Chatham, Sarnia, or Windsor. More details to come.
