Staff at the Central Ambulance Communications Centre (CACC) in Wallaceburg are thrilled after raising some funds recently for breast cancer research.

The local organization, who dispatches ambulance and fire For Lambton-Kent and Chatham-Kent, and fire for Lambton County, held a special lunch fundraiser at their 150 Dora Drive location.

“The staff (of about 30 people) donates all the food and door prizes and we open it to staff, family and friends,” Karen Eddleston, administrative assistant at the CACC, told the Sydenham Current.

“We have people come over for a donation for lunch. Any monetary amount and then we sell some door prize tickets. We have been doing it for six or seven years now.”

Eddleston said the lunch fundraiser was started after one of their staff members battled breast cancer.

“It is very near and dear to her heart,” she said.

“We are inspired by her, so that why we have it every year.”

Eddleston said some top notch prizes were given out this year as well.

“We had several really large gift baskets full of different food products,” she said.

“We had some donated bamboo pillows, a humongous salt lamp, some wine donated as well. All really good prizes that everybody wanted. Even some homemade stuff.”

When everything was tallied, a total of $887 was raised.

Eddleston said the money will go towards the Breast Cancer Society of Canada.

“It was pretty amazing,” she said.

“We raised over $500 last year, so every year is a little bit more.”
