Westcourt fire victims in need of donations

A family is in need of donations after falling victim to a fire in Wallaceburg.

The Pinnance/Jacobs family “lost everything” in a blaze in their apartment at 200 Westcourt in Wallaceburg on Friday morning.

Jody Van Droffelaar-Lauwers, who lives in Port Lambton, is one of several people gathering donations for the family.

“It’s my daughter boyfriend and his family who lost everything,” she told the Sydenham Current.

“I am accepting donations at my house in Port Lambton. A dear friend of mine has offered his heated work shop to store all donations until they get another place to live.”

Paulette Wrightman is also collecting donations with a drop off on Walpole Island at Daawegamgoons.

Wrightman is collecting clothing items, including:

– XL men’s shirts, 38/32 pants (slim), size 13 men’s shoes

– Medium women’s shirts, size seven pants

Corrie Houle is also accepting donations.

Van Droffelaar-Lauwers, Wrightman and Houle can all be found on Facebook to arrange pick-up or drop-off of donations.

The Wallaceburg Lakers are also accepting donations for the family, as one of their former players lost everything in the blaze, including his hockey equipment. Contact the organization, here.

A GoFundMe campaign and a bank account for donations is also in the works.

Fire officials say the call came to the apartment at 2:38 a.m. on Friday, when a resident called 911.

There were no reported injuries and the cause is believed to be accidental

The fire originated in the basement area, fire officials say.

An estimated $70,000 damage was caused as a result of the blaze, while $140,000 in property was saved.
